Sam Clarke

Sam is an Engineering Lead here at Starling, where he heads up the Account Management group: a collective of teams responsible for the core banking features that our customers use every day, from moving money to savings accounts. While his focus is predominantly on the (Java) back-end of our platform, he also regularly contributes to our various front-end portals.

He's based out of Starling's Manchester office, having previously lived and worked in London.

More recently, Sam's been looking into the Developer Experience (DevEx) of Starling engineers, finding ways to use software to solve inefficiencies and bottlenecks in our day-to-day engineering and workflows.

Sam's background is in Physics, rather than computers. An MPhys graduate from the University of Manchester, he traded black holes & nuclear reactors for Null Pointer Exceptions and compilation failures. He's a lover of coffee, Tottenham, and running - though it's getting harder and harder for him to enjoy any of these things in large quantities.
